- Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.... Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
- Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all - the apathy of human beings.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.
Helen Keller
It's humbling to hear/read this from someone who lived life with the handicaps that Helen lived with. To be able to see hope when you have no sight. I want that.
I also want to be "full of the overcoming". I desire to be someone who endures the difficult, knowing that Hope is in my future. I want to be like Lt. Dan after the storm at sea.
"Sometimes, at night, it was almost as if I could hear the assurance that God the Father gave to another soldier, named Joshua: 'I will not fail thee nor forsake thee.' "

“If you want to build a ship, don’t summon people to buy wood, prepare tools, distribute jobs, and organize the work, rather teach people the yearning for the wide, boundless ocean.”
Antoine de Saint, in Alan Hirsch's book on church planting.
"I want to be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon – but I want to stay alive."
– Madonna, on Sirius Satellite Radio
Um...brillant. I'm not sure Madonna knows what that these men had a cause that they were passionate about, and were willing to sacrifice themselves for long before their death. Lennon's death of course was senseless, but he lived his life for something he believed in. I'm not sure what Madonna is passionate about that could possible change the world. Adopting a third-world child (non-orphan) doesn't quite put you in the same league as Mother Teresa.

We'd like to have it all neat and orderly. We want to be able to measure it and control it, but the reality is that Jesus is a mystery. The Christian faith is a mystery. The disciples spent their entire time following him going, "Uhh, what the heck are you doing? We don't understand what you're doing and we don't know why you're doing it." And when he would explain why he was doing it, they still didn't get it.

''I don't go hunting for celebrity babies. I have 116 other things to do, thank you, Billy. You need another job. I mean, you have potential as a human being. This may not be right for you. Seriously, can you focus on other things?''
